2019 Facility Awards | Landscapes Golf Management

Landscapes Golf Management (LGM), part of the Landscapes Unlimited Family of Companies, wrapped up their 20th annual general manager conference in February. The annual meeting is an opportunity for Landscapes' general managers, emerging leaders, and home-office support team to come together for four days of comradery, learning, and development. The 2020 edition focused on developing a positive culture, leadership, and optimizing performance.

In addition to opportunities to learn and build relationships, LGM managers and staffers participated in the annual awards ceremony where staffers and facilities were recognized for exemplary performance in 2019.

Taking home top honors for "Facility of the Year" was Butler’s Golf Course in Elizabeth, PA. During a challenging weather year and amidst other headwinds, Butler's turned in a stellar season from a financial, customer satisfaction, and employee feedback standpoint. Butler's also executed a clubhouse improvement project, creating a new concept-bar with simulators and food & beverage service called "The Loft."

Chris Lewis, GCSAA, of The Broadlands Golf Course was awarded the coveted "General Manager of the Year" award.  Lewis, a lifelong superintendent, regional agronomist, and former president of the Colorado Turfgrass Association, stepped into the General Manager role less than three years ago.

Winchester Country Club, in Winchester, Virginia, won "Most Improved Facility." Since 2017, LGM's first full year at Winchester, the LGM team has improved revenues by more than 14%. During the same period, Net Operating Income improved by $269,000.

In addition to the above awards, LGM recognized facilities and employees for excellence in customer service, agronomy, food & beverage, sales, innovation, and more. Congratulations to all nominees and award winners. A complete list of 2019 LGM award winners follows.

The LGM FISH! Service Champion
The FISH! Service Champion is awarded to the team member who most exemplifies the FISH! Philosophy.  This team member chooses a positive attitude, finds opportunities to "make their day" for members and guests, and is actively engaged to increase the level of fun at the property.

Awarded to the facility who has earned a reputation among their members for a terrific culture as well as objectively generated the highest percentage of FISH! Pledges as a % of total employees.
 
Safety Showcase - Three Crowns Golf Club
We are passionate about making sure we are sending our employees home safely after a day on the job.  The safety of our Team is directly related to the culture of safety that exists at our properties.  The results of a well-executed safety program show up in employee satisfaction and the bottom line. The Safety Showcase award is presented to the property that achieved 100% compliance on all aspects of the safety program COUPLED with the lowest accident experience.

#Award (Social Media) - Max Mandel Municipal Golf Course
Having a coordinated and well-executed social media plan which is engaging to our members and guests is essential to success in today's digital environment.  The #Award recipient is given annually to the facility that is a leader in the social media space, is creative and sets the bar for others to follow.

Innovator of the Year - Golf Club at Devils Tower
Developing and implementing creative solutions to challenging problems is at the center of the Innovator of the year award.  Innovation demonstrates a commitment to at least one of our core company values -Find a Way.  It requires looking at a problem differently than our competitors and coming up with solutions until something sticks.

LGM Ambassador 
For LGM to be successful we depend upon a trusting, collaborative relationship with the team at the property and the corporate team working in synch.  The LGM Ambassador recipients go above and beyond with a positive attitude for the greater good of the company.

The Assistant General Manager of the Year is recognized for their leadership in a supporting role.  The AGM of the Year embraces their development in the Landscapes way of doing thigs with the objective of taking their skills to the next level as GM.  The recipient of this award contributes to the overall achievement of the financial goals and to a positive culture at the property.

LGM 'Select' Facility of the Year - Hillcrest Country Club
The Select Facility of the Year represents all aspects of the service delivery hitting on all cylinders.  It indicates a successful identification of the need and the subsequent execution.  The successful Select relationship requires a GM that sets the ego aside and is willing to work collaboratively towards the success of the property and the LGM relationship.

Golf Professional of the Year ­- Jon Moore, Platteview Golf Club
The Golf Professional of the Year demonstrates a commitment to service and is passionate about and dedicated to growing the game.  The Golf Professional of the Year is a team player interacting seamlessly with other departments, delivers upon the financial performance expectations of their department and maintains a safe work environment.

Sales Professional of the Year - Cat Clark, Sioux Falls Golf
The Sales Professional of the Year delivers outstanding sales results, manages successful marketing programs, is innovative and maximizes utilization of all available resources.  The Sales Professional of the Year is a team player and jumps in to help other departments as needed.

Golf Course Superintendent of the Year - Ben Timmons, Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club
The Golf Course Superintendent of the Year delivers the best possible course conditions for the resources made available.  This recipient contributes to the overall positive culture of the property and is a team player helping wherever they are needed.  The Golf Course Superintendent of the Year has attention to detail in administering their business, completes special projects on schedule and on budget and maintains a safe environment.

Food and Beverage Director of the Year - Linda James, The Sagamore Club
The Food and Beverage Director of the Year leads a high level of member and guest satisfaction through high-quality food and hospitable service.  The Food and Beverage Director of the Year delivers on key financial performance metrics and maintains a safe environment.  This recipient is a strong leader in their department while identifying opportunities to support other departments.

Most Improved Facility of the Year - Winchester Country Club
The Most Improved Facility of the Year prevails in the face of adversity and what might appear to be overwhelming challenges.  The leadership gets the right people in the right seats on the bus and in many cases rebuilds the culture, both among the members / guests and among the team itself.  The Team's efforts to come together and succeed are rewarded with exceptional improvement in the property's financial performance.

General Manager of the Year - Chris Lewis, Broadlands Golf Course
The General Manager of the Year is recognized by their peers and their team members at the property as an outstanding leader and those skills translate into achieving both short and long-term goals for their property.  The recipient of this award encourages the development and professional enhancement of the team members under their direction.  The GM of the Year builds a positive culture among the staff and members / guests and develops and maintains a positive relationship with the client.

Facility of the Year - Butler's Golf Course
The Facility of the Year is recognized for the outstanding performance of the leadership team.  The FOY is recognized for creating market-leading operations for their property, demonstrates innovation and creativity, manages within the budget and achieves outstanding financial performance.  The facility receiving this award has a high level of engagement among the team resulting in a positive culture at the property.
